This PML deep oil pan for Dodge RFE transmissions is a direct replacement on these vehicles:

  • Ram 2500 & 3500, 2WD and 4WD, with 6.7 liter diesel engine, 2007½ to 2013 (The 3500 HD Cab & Chassis has the Aisin transmission so this pan will not work)
  • Ram 1500 with Hemi engine, 2002 to 2005
  • Ram 1500 with 4.7 V8 engine, 2002 to 2013, 4, 5, or 6 speed transmission
  • 2WD Dakota with 4.7 V8 engine, 2000 to 2004
  • 2WD Durango with 4.7 V8 engine, 2000 to 2003
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.7 V8 engine, 1999 to 2004

2014 and newer trucks: Cooler lines run under the stock transmission pan on many models. We are working with our customers to determine if this pan will work (October 2014). If you have a 2014 or newer truck, check carefully for clearance and let us know what you find. We have had the pan installed on a 2014 Ram 2500 and the pan cleared the cooler lines but the bracket holding the cooler lines had to be bent 1/8 inch to clear the pan.

This PML transmission pan increases the amount of fluid by 2 1/2 to 3 quarts over stock. It is about 1 inch taller than the stock pan.

Once installed, this pan will not be parallel to the ground. The transmission case gasket surface is also slanted. Other PML pans for the Dodge RFE transmission are parallel to the ground once installed.

PML makes four different pans for the Dodge RFE transmission series (45RFE, 5-45RFE, 65RFE, 66RFE, 68RFE). The stock pans and filters are also shown in the image below for reference.

PML transmission pans for Dodge rfe transmissions

The following vehicles most likely will need a PML pan with a step to avoid interference from the exhaust or frame cross members. Please see part number 11078 or part number 11079 if you have:

  • Ram 1500 with Hemi engine, 2006 & newer (exhaust)
  • Ram 2500 & 3500 with Hemi engine (exhaust)
  • 4WD Dakota 2000 - 2004 and 4WD Durango 2000 - 2003 (frame)
  • Dakota 2005 & newer and Durango 2004 & newer (frame)
  • Durango with Hemi engine (check for clearance with a catalytic converter in the front)
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee with Hemi engine: (check for clearance with a catalytic converter in the front)

If you have a skid plate, you may need to move it downwards away from the transmission. Please see information on an installation further down on this page. These Jeeps (along with some Dodge vehicles) usually have skid plates that limit clearance:

  • Liberty CRD, 2005–2006 (check skid plate and see installation below)
  • Wrangler 2010–2011 2.8 Diesel (check skid plate)
  • Grand Cherokee, 2005–2010 (check skid plate)

Note the location of the pick-up on the sump filters and the corresponding location on the stock pans.

For PML part numbers 10304 and 11039, you can use either filter.

For PML part numbers 11078 and 11079, you must use the 4WD filter as the step in the pan will not accommodate a 2WD filter. Thanks to Eric who provided part numbers for 4WD filters that will work:

  • OEM: 5013470AB
  • Fleetguard: TF15072
  • FRAM: FT1223
  • WIX: 58843 (kit)

The filter referred to as the 2WD filtter, has a short inlet pipe toward the rear of the filter. The other filter is called a 4WD filter and the inlet tube is longer and toward the center of the filter. We have been told that around 2007 Dodge began using 4WD filters on 2WD vehicles.

PML pans for Dodge RFE transmissions work with stock filters, easily available from your favorite auto parts store or dealer.

The filter bolts on to the valve body as shown in above images. The filter does not use the pan for support so the pan does not need filter supports in it. (Click on image to view a larger pictures in a new tab or window.)

A filter extension or tube is not needed since the fluid will be at the same level with a stock pan as with the PML pan. The filter will pick up from the same place with the stock pan or with a PML pan. PML designs pans and covers to work with stock parts without the need for additional modifications or complications.

Information is for reference only. Installer should verify transmission, filter, and fitment based on the individual vehicle.

Baffles

Inside of this transmission pan shown at right.

The pan features internal baffles to direct oil to the filter inlet. The baffles keep the oil near the pickup tube and act as heat sink to help with cooling. Baffles also reduce sloshing.

PML recommends using RTV install this pan.

Installations

This PML Dodge transmission pan has been installed on a variety of trucks and SUVs. Our thanks to those who gave us pictures and feedback.

Jeep Liberty CRD

Installation of this pan on a Jeep Liberty CRD requires removal of the factory skid plate or addition of spacers to move the skid plate downward away from the transmission. Thanks to Stan Wright who purchased part number 10304 for his CRD and then documented his installation. See his write-up atliberty.eurekaboy.com/deeppan.htm to read about this install.

Durango AWD, 2004

2000 Dakota with PML transmission pan

The PML pan is installed on a 2004 Dodge Durango Gen. II limited AWD with a 5.7 HEMI and 5-45RFE transmission. The pan clears cross member and fits great. The cross over exhaust pipe does hang down lower than the cross member. The pan was purchased in the natural cast finish and painted by the customer.

Our thanks to Michael for choosing PML pans and covers.
