This PML tranny pan fits many 1989 to 2004 Ford 2WD and 4WD trucks and SUVs with the E4OD or 4R100 transmission. Typical applications are:

  • F250, F350, F450, F550, 1989 to 2002
  • F150 Lightning trucks, 1993 to 2004
  • Some full size Broncos
  • Excursion
  • E250 (5.4 V8), E350, E450 vans and motor homes
  • Lincoln Navigator

Trucks with 5.4 Gas Engine: Check for carefully for clearance from exhaust or frame cross members. Generally, the stock exhaust runs too close to the stock transmission pan to allow for a larger pan.

Excursion owners: Excursions with V10 engines have reported that the exhaust hits near the front of the pan. Excursion owners have told us that our transmission pan will clear the frame cross member. If you have a 4WD, you may need to loosen the rear transmission mount bolts and jack up the transfer case slightly to ease access to the bolts along the back of the pan.

If you have a 460 V8 and a "Banks Power Pack" kit, please check carefully for clearance between the exhaust and the transmission pan. We have had mixed reports from customers.

Because vehicles vary, always check your truck or SUV to verify the configuration and clearance before ordering.

Temperature Sensor Option

Drilling and tapping for a temperature sending unit is an option for PML transmission pans. This pan has two locations that can be machined, one on the driver's side and one on the passenger's side. These locations can accommodate from 1/8 to 1/2 NPT. PML has a machine shop on site and can machine a pan to your location and thread specifications. If you wish PML to machine a hole, please call to order. There is a $40 machining charge.

When PML drills and taps a hole, a plug is included.

About Filters

PML designed this pan to use the stock filter.

The pick up for the transmission fluid is at the same point with this pan and the stock pan. The fluid level is at the same place with the PML pan as with the stock pan. No filter extension is needed.

This PML transmission pan has filter supports on the inside to hold the filter in the same location as with the stock pan. The filter supports are the rectangles on the upper right side of this image.

The 2WD filter is on the left and the 4WD filter is on the right.

Either of these filters should work with this PML pan. Some people prefer the 4WD filter because of the longer pick up.

About Gaskets

PML recommends a flexible rubber-cork gasket with this pan. These gaskets work well to seal machined surfaces, such as the gasket flange of the PML pan and the transmission housing.

Reusable thick rubber gaskets are intended for use with stamped steel stock pans. PML recommends against reusable rubber gaskets with our pans for several reasons. They nick easily, resulting in leaks. Their hole guides can cause gaps between the PML pan and the transmission case mating surface. Stamped steel stock pans flex and conform with the reusable rubber gaskets to provide a seal. PML sand cast aluminum pans have thick machined flanges and DO NOT flex.

PML recommends a rubber-cork gasket as show in the image.

These gaskets are thin, flexible, inexpensive and easily available from auto parts stores, sold individually or in a kit with a filter.
