Ram changed to this 12 bolt American Axle 9 1/4 inch 235mm front to improve the durability, steering and control, according to FourWheeler.com. This PML cover is heavy duty, sand cast aluminum. Fins on the lower part where the fluid collects aid in heat dissipation. Because of many clearance issues with steering, u-bolts, and suspension, PML designed a cover as close to the shape and size of the stock cover as possible. Configurations vary so always check your truck to make sure you have clearance for any larger aftermarket cover. Trucks with the factory air ride suspension may have less clearance. There is a Safety Recall Notice for the front suspension on Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks. After any modification, the installer or mechanic must verify clearance. PML ships new mounting bolts, fill hole plug and a magnetic drain plug with each cover. Image at right shows the polish finish cover and what is in the box. Except for the cover, the content is the same for all finishes. Click on image to view larger. Rear Differential CoverPML makes a matching rear end cover for these Ram trucks. Please see the AAM 11.5" ring gear, 14 bolt cover (click here) or the AAM 10.5" ring gear, 14 bolt cover (click here). GasketPML recommends RTV gasket material. RTV is a type of silicon rubber and it comes in a tube. There are several brands, such as Permatex, and these are readily available at automotive stores like Pep Boys and AutoZone. Some people use the reusable factory gasket. Please make sure the gasket is clean and free of any nicks. If there is a nick in the gasket, that is where you'll get a leak. Optional Temperature Sending UnitThis part has an undrilled boss for a temperature sensor. The option to have PML drill and tap the boss will need to be ordered over the phone, not on-line, and there is an additional charge of $45 per hole. Boss is on the passenger side of the cover. PML Differential Cover Compared to Stock
These images show this PML differential cover compared to the stock cover. Installations2017 Ram 3500 DieselNick has a 2017 3500 Dodge Ram 4 wheel drive, single wheel rear axle truck, and he purchased PML front and rear differential covers for it. He reported: "It was an easy install with no problems fits perfect."
2017 Ram 2500 Laramie 4x4 DieselMarion purchased PML front and rear covers for his 2017 Ram 2500HD 6.7 L Cummins Laramie. Our thanks to him for sharing pictures and comments from his installation. He was not able to install the PML rear differential cover with the sway bar in place. He unscrewed four bolts and the sway bar lowered. He purchased this rear cover in the bare metal as-cast finish and found that touching it with oily hands made it look dirty quickly. So he painted the rear cover all black and purchased the front cover in the PML black powder coat finish. For fluid, Marion added 4 1/2 quarts of 75W 90 Synthetic Anti-Slippery Fluid for the rear. He loves the look and the easiness of replacing the fluid wtih the PML covers.
2014 Ram 3500Corey installed his cover and matching PML rear cover, Part Number 10361, on his 2014 Ram 3500 Tradesman Crew Cab Short Bed, SRW, 6.7 Diesel, G5 truck. On CumminsForum.com, he posted: [I]nstalled my PML covers today. Probably should have just put the rear on and forgone the front one but they look good together. The front was a tad harder, took a allen wrench and ground about half an inch off of the short end and it would fit under the front bar that goes across the front top of the diff cover ( had to come in from the top). Other then that it was pretty painless. Both are thick guys, thought quality was really good. Our thanks to Corey for sharing his comments and pictures.
2014 Ram 3500Kelderman Manufacturing installed this cover on their 2014 Ram 3500. To show it off, they polished a cast finish cover. Truck is lifted and modified.
Our thanks to Kelderman for selecting PML covers and pans for their trucks. 2013 Ram 3500Gino installed the PML front differential cover on his 2013 Ram 3500 6.7. His truck has the radial suspension. 2014 Ram 2500Andrew Lowe installed this cover on his 2014 Project Bloodhound Ram 2500 4x4 6.7 Turbo Diesel. He also installed PML RFE transmission pan, part number 10304 and PML rear cover, part number 10361. Andrew reported there was plenty of room in the front for the larger PML cover. The images below show the stock cover, this PML cover in the cast finish installed on the truck before it was customized, this PML cover in custom red powder coat after the truck is lifted.
